The Basics

Let's face it: reading a book on fashion isn't hard-hitting. I can happily say that I've completed Nina's whole book in the half hour it took me on the train to get home, and I've picked up a few tips that will come in handy in the later stages of my wardrobe update. I've found that this whole process (I really need to come up with a cooler name for it other than a wardrobe cull; that just sounds so dark and gloomy..) is a three-step thing, and Nina has indeed verified my theory.

Step One -
Cull.

Step Two -
The Basics.

Step Three -
Icing.

Luckily, step one is pretty much done. But step two? A little harder than removing the clothes that I'm no longer in love with.

For one, what are the basics? As a twenty-something year old, I feel Nina writes to a woman a little older than me. Absolutely, everything she mentions is of course a wardrobe staple.

But what are the basics for a struggling university student?

Obviously, everyone is going to have different needs. I work in an office three days a week, with a smart casual dress code (that's not routinely enforced), where a lot of my friends work in retail.

So, after a bit of thought, I present to you my top ten wardrobe essentials for the Australian uni student:

And by ten, I mean thirty or so. Obviously.
