~ How a pair of jeans changed my life.

I've never bought into the whole 'a pair of jeans can change your life' thing. Shoes, yes. Jeans? No. Nor did I understand the whole 'if the shoe fits, buy them in every colour.' The same pair of shoes? A bit boring, no?

Being exactly five-foot-nothing, my height firmly puts me in the petite category. However, my love of mint gelato, Gloria Jeans Tim Tam Crushes and melted-Nutella-and-strawberry croissants disputes this petite label and lumps me in with the... well, lumps.

Being an avid fan of fashion, yet unable to follow it much due to unfortunate genetics and a love affair that often has Boyfriend jealous (why else would he keep telling me to lay off the chocolate?), fashion has always been something along the lines of the obsession a stalker has with his object of observation. Sure, I subscribe to all the magazines, follow all the blogs and hoard inspiration like the next Anna Wintour. But never could my wardrobe ever contain the 'right' items.

Until my brand new pair of jeans.

They fit me like a glove. They hide all the wrong and display all the right.

And then, I saw a change in myself I hadn't seen since I last saw my mother in a bikini. I started buying small soy chai lattes. I started drinking more water. Saying no to dessert and yes to vegetables. (That's a lie. I could never say no to dessert. I just eat less dessert.)

All without realising. 

Suddenly, my world is larger. Now that jeans were accessible, so too was a lot more. I started spending more money on lipsticks and stains - another world closed off to me - and to a lesser degree, body con and cut-outs.

The way I see it, jeans are a lifestyle. An attitude. I now confidently walk down the street knowing my ass looks amazing. There's a bounce in my step I never had before. I looked polished. All because I bought a pair of jeans. They started a chain reaction, ending in my wardrobe now more complete than ever.

And yes. I bought them in every colour.

 So far, I've found the most inspiration from McCall's collection. Dip-dyed shoes, sequins and lace, a few pops of colour and a touch of whimsy.. I can definitely find a few items that would fit in wonderfully with my current wardrobe..

Absolutely adore the contradictions at play in aje's debut show. Take away message: more sparkles.

Ginger & Smart S/S 2012/13

The most beautiful colours on display at Ginger & Smart, and can't help but notice the subtle oriental prints through the dresses. The silhouettes in particular have caught my eye.
